We turn posted eggs with damaged/saddled air cells from the very first day, else there's a risk of ending up with mid-egg-pip malpositions from the embryonic sac attaching itself to the inner eggshell membrane.
And the reason we recommend setting them upright and turning them through vertical is so the growing embryo, as it gets crowded inside the shell confines, displaces the 'saddle', forcing the air cell into the correct position at the top.

About the primitive embryonic sac. It's the outer ring of the "Bullseye" which tells us the egg is fertilised. That outer ring grows and overbridges the embryo to become the fluid-filled sac. Because the edges are 'live/programmed' to seek each other at the middle of the dome and fuse, they are particularly vulnerable to mistaking the inner shell membrane for the target and adhere to it, with the embryo stuck in place for the whole duration.
